Assistance

Support for clergy and their families

Assistance is intended for clergy of the Diocese and their families. Initially, rectors send applications concerning material needs to their deans, who submit them to the Fund Council. Each request is considered in light of the person’s circumstances, the parish and available resources. An online form is also available for initial contact; the next steps are clarified in communication with the Fund.

Clergy and parishioners during a church service

Who the Fund supports

The Fund exists to support clergy of the Diocese and their families: during active service, after retirement, in illness, family difficulty and other circumstances in which assistance is needed. Particular care extends to matushkas and children, including the families of reposed clergymen.

Every request is considered individually, taking account of the particular circumstances and the resources available to the Fund. After review, the Fund will seek to determine what practical or financial assistance can reasonably be offered in that situation.

How a request is considered

The initial procedure set out in the appeal to Parish Councils. The online form does not replace it.

  1. 1

    An application from the rector

The rector sends the dean an application concerning the material needs of a clergyman and his family.

  2. 2

    Submission by the dean

The dean submits the application to the Fund Council for consideration.

  3. 3

    Individual consideration

The Council considers how to assist from the Fund’s resources, taking account of the parish and the recipient’s circumstances.

Your information is treated with care

Contact details and a brief description help establish the circumstances and next steps. The online form lets you choose whether to permit a parish notice. Without that permission, no notice appears in the parish account. Request content is restricted to authorised Fund staff, and existing consents to share information remain applicable. Do not include medical documents, bank details or unnecessary information about other people in an initial message.

When you cannot wait

If there is an immediate threat to life or safety, contact your local emergency services first. If a material or medical need requires urgent action, also use the help available locally rather than delaying it while awaiting a response from the Fund.

Initial contact online

Use the form to provide your contact details and briefly describe the assistance needed. It is an additional way to contact the Fund. The next steps are clarified through communication; submitting a form does not itself mean that assistance has been awarded.
